Cliches are what they are for a reason. In one of her staff speeches, Vancity CEO Tamara Vrooman gave out the saying:
In the good times, prepare for the bad times
In the bad times, prepare for the good times
It stuck with me, and I often find myself trotting the phrase out in discussion with clients and colleagues. Yes, it is a cliche – I have personally contributed to its over use.
But it is a useful reminder to apply ourselves to counteract the natural swings in our business. And the reverse symmetrical structure is memorable, so there are very good reasons for its over use.
With busy times over the summer continuing, I’ve been neglecting attention to new business. Note to self: “In the good times….”
